29481890

A gripping psychological thriller from the bestselling author of Follow You Home and The Magpies.

It was the job she had dreamed of since childhood. But on her very first day, when an unnerving encounter drags up memories Sophie Greenwood would rather forget, she wonders if she has made a mistake. A fatal mistake.

What is her ambitious young assistant really up to? And what exactly happened to Sophie’s predecessor? When her husband and daughter are pulled into the nightmare, Sophie is forced to confront the darkest secrets she has carried for years.

As her life begins to fall apart at work and at home, Sophie must race to uncover the truth about her new job…before it kills her.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. I have not been compensated and what is stated here is an honest review.

Let me begin with an . . . OMG.  Talk about a serious emotional roller coaster. I can’t remember a time where I was having anxiety and just being in a poor mood thanks to a book I read. I can only say that this book is emotional. I had to put the book down just to try and get my own emotions back on track.

The book is divided into past and present where we witness Sophie’s dream job and the dark history that ties in with the owner of that dream job. Add in deaths, a scary man terrorizing her daughter, and a mystery about her predecessor; you’re in for a serious treat.

It is a book that can’t be stopped reading. It does move a bit slow in the beginning, but grabs you and keeps running near the quarter mark. I don’t remember much of a pause in the book and poor Sophie is an emotional wreck. Which only made it worse for me.

This is definitely a book I’ll have to read again, but for now, I’m just going to rest a bit. If you love thrillers, books, and a dark history, this is the book for you.
